Due to unexpectedly low sales of its new releases, Ubisoft has canceled three unannounced projects in addition to the other four games canceled in July and delays Skull and Bones yet again.

Ubisoft does not seem to be going through its best moment: the French company has announced that it is registering “surprisingly slower” sales than expected and, consequently, has canceled three unannounced video games. These projects are in addition to the other four cancellations that the company announced in July, two of which also affected titles not officially presented. Also, a new delay has been confirmedfor Skull and Bones, which will no longer be out on March 9 as planned.

This movement, which sources such as journalist Stephen Totilo or the VGC headliner have reported (and of which we are still learning new details), will be accompanied by savings of 200 million dollars for Ubisoft in restructuring and cutbacks. The company claims to be “facing great challenges as the industry continues to shift towards mega -franchises and long-term titles that can attract players from all over the world regardless of platforms and business models,” according to Yves Guillemot, CEO of the company. company, which has acknowledged feeling “disappointed”.

Seven games canceled in six months

While the company is trying to adapt to these trends, the titles it will use for it “have yet to be released”, something added to the fact that “recent releases have not performed as expected” (including games like Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and Just Dance 2023) makes Ubisoft decide to cancel these three unknown games. We remember that in July it already canceled two other unannounced ones, in addition to the controversial battle royale Ghost Recon Frontline and the adaptation of Splinter Cell for virtual reality.

Perhaps the most striking thing about this announcement is the new delay of Skull and Bones, a game that seemed to be ready to go on sale: after several delays and suspicions of cancellation, the pirate multiplayer was going to be published on March 9. Finally, it will not be released until 2023-24, according to the company’s new estimates, although there is also talk that a beta phase will begin soon, of which it has not been specified whether it will be public or not. On the other hand, Ubisoft assures that it has another “big” unannounced game scheduled for the fiscal year that begins on April 1 and ends on January 31, 2024.

These changes leave a picture in which Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which has been in production for five years, are the two big titles that will pull the Ubisoft bandwagon in the recent future.
