The Witcher remake will be open world
CD Projekt RED has confirmed that The Witcher Remake will bet on the open world: “It is an open world RPG for one player,” it says in the presentation of its latest financial results.
Although The Witcher series has accustomed us to the open world, especially in its magnificent third installment, the game with which Geralt de Rivia made the leap to virtuality opted for a more linear structure. That’s why when CD Projekt RED announced that they are working on a remake of the first The Witcher, we all asked ourselves the same question: will they keep the same scenario scheme or will they bet on a more open one?
Although in the official announcement they already dropped that there was still a lot to learn about The Witcher Remake, today the Polish company got confused and shared (almost unintentionally) an important detail of the project: it will be an open world. We know this because they have defined it that way in the presentation of their financial results for the third quarter, where you can read that the game is an “open-world RPG for a single player”.
The Witcher Remake, a project we originally knew by its codename ‘Canis Majoris’, is being developed by Polish studio Fool’s Theory; It is a team made up of veterans specialized in the role, who even worked on the original game. Its development is being carried out on Unreal Engine 5 and, according to CD Projekt RED, it represents a challenge as ambitious as the one involved in creating the first game back in the day.
More The Witcher games are confirmed.
This is not the only The Witcher game that CD Projekt RED is preparing: in addition to the remake, there is a The Witcher 4 (not officially called that) in development that will start a new trilogy and a multiplayer, codenamed ‘ Project Sirius’ , which is being developed by The Molasses Flood. At the moment, none of these projects have an official name or release date. An updated version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is also on the way, launching December 14 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
