The Callisto Protocol: Serious performance issues reported on PC
The PC version of The Callisto Protocol does not achieve a stable 60 fps rate even on high spec PCs. Ray tracing also gives stability issues.
The Callisto Protocol, the new space horror adventure developed by Striking Distance Studios, is out now for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Despite the fact that it is receiving mostly favorable praise and criticism , there are not a few users and even the media that are reporting that the game has a poor and unacceptable performance in its PC version. In fact, the optimization is so bad, that Wccftech who carried out various technical analyses on The Callisto Protocol, strongly advises against purchasing this version until the developers release a patch.
Apparently, the frame rate per second suffers throughout the game due to a combination of various aspects, although a shader compilation problem typical of the Unreal Engine graphics engine stands out above all. From the attached videos you can see that the game has serious problems reaching a stable 60fps at high settings even when running on a computer with very high specs. Specifically, Wccftech has analyzed the performance with a PC that mounts an Intel i7 12700KF processor and an RTX 4090 graphics card and, even so, it does not exceed 45 fps even when activating AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 scaling in quality mode.
Ray tracing issues
They comment that it is possible to improve performance by disabling options such as ray tracing, but that it is still difficult to get rid of noticeable drops in fps when performing actions as simple as breaking a pipe; Drops of between 10 fps and 20 fps have also been detected when an enemy jumps out of nowhere on the protagonist. It should be noted, of course, that the game is optimized for AMD and that NVIDIA has not yet released a driver in order to optimize it, although, as ElAnalistaDeBits also points out, the problems are so serious that this detail is worth an excuse for poor performance:
“The PC version of The Callisto Protocol comes with optimization issues. Currently the game is unplayable with Ray-Tracing even on 40 Series graphics. The game has trouble maintaining a constant 30fps with FSR Performance on a 3080. Video coming soon.”
