The Callisto Protocol PC Performance: How to Fix Stuttering, Lag and Increase FPS on PC

The Callisto Protocol is now available for everyone, but fans are unfortunately need to know how to fix a stuttering issue that is heavily present on PC via Steam, as well as possibly PS4, PS5, and Xbox consoles. It’s worth noting that many users online are reporting issues with NVIDIA 30 series RTX cards and above, with ray tracing suffering also.

It can be quite disappointing to get constant freezing or even crashes. Here’s everything you can do to potentially fix it. So first lets review the minimum and recommended system specs:

MINIMUM:

Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system

Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen™ 5 2600
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon™ RX 580
DirectX: Version 11
Storage: 75 GB available space

RECOMMENDED:

Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 10/11
Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-8700 or AMD Ryzen™ 5 3600
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1070 or AMD Radeon™ RX 5700
DirectX: Version 12
Storage: 75 GB available space
Additional Notes: SSD recommended

1. Update graphic drivers: AMD just launched a driver that they say it will help with FPS and i bet nVIDIA did this too.

2. Tweak Graphics Settings 

Go to the Main Menu and go to the Graphics settings and adjust the setting:
– FPS cap set to 120
– FSR 2, Quality Mode set to Performance. You will find this under Advanced >> Upscaling > AMD FSR 2
– Motion Blue: Off
– Depth of Field: Off

3. Switch to DirectX 12

– Close the game if it is running
– Return to Steam and right-click on ‘Callisto Protocol’
– Select ‘Properties’
– Go to the ‘General’ tab and then select ‘Launch options’
– In that box, type in -DX12

4. Run the game as an administrator

To avoid user account control-related privilege issues, you should run Callisto Protocol executable game file as an administrator. To do this:

– Right-click on the Callisto Protocol exe shortcut file on your PC.
– Now, select Properties > Click on the Compatibility tab.
– Make sure to click on the Run this program as an administrator checkbox to checkmark it.
– Click on Apply and select OK to save change

6. Close Background Running Tasks

Sometimes unnecessary background running tasks or programs can also consume a higher amount of CPU or Memory resources on the system, which may cause crashes, lags, stutters, FPS drops, etc. To do that:

– Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys to open up the Task Manager.
– Now, click on the Processes tab > to select tasks unnecessarily running in the background and consuming enough system resources.
– Click on End Task to close it > Do the same steps for all unnecessary tasks.
– Once done, restart your system to apply changes.

7. Set High Priority in Task Manager

You can tell Windows to run your game properly by giving it a higher priority in the Task Manager. So as to:

– Right-click the Start button and choose Task Manager.
– Click on the Processes tab, then right-click on the game task for Callisto Protocol.
– Choose “Set High Priority” and then “Close Task Manager.”
– Lastly, run the Callisto Protocol game on your PC to see if it crashes.

8. Try this settings exactly:

– FPS Cap 60
– FSR Balanced
– Motion Blur: Off
– Depth Of Field: On
– Shadow Quality: High
– Volumetrics: High
– Particle: High
– Phys Refractions: Enabled
– Ray-traced Shadows: Enabled
– Ray-traced Reflections: Medium
– Ray Traced Transmission: Enabled
– Mesh Texture And Texture Filter Quality: High
– AMD FSR 2 For Upscaling.

Some disgruntled PC players have claimed that the stuttering is so bad that they have requested a refund for The Callisto Protocol on Steam. If you wish to request a refund through Steam, you must meet the below requirements:

– Have a playtime of less than two hours
– Request a refund within two weeks of purchase
