PlayStation will increase its investment in Chinese developments, provide support and publish some of the games with the most potential.
Sony has announced plans to boost its Chinese development incubation program, PlayStation China Hero Project , with further investment and support. One of its first effects will be that they will publish the expected hack’n slash Lost Soul Aside (beginning of 2024) and the shooter Convallaria (2023). As part of these announcements, Sony confirms that it will invest more than 1 million yuan – about 136,000 euros – in each game that participates in the program, not only from small studios, but also from larger studios. “The scale of the third season [of PlayStation China Hero Project] will far exceed the previous two,” said Bao Bo, director of game production in China. Some of these games will be published by Sony and PlayStation Studios will collaborate on the projects.
China Hero Project revealed 17 games within the program with its introductions in 2017 and 2019, of which seven are already on sale. Although Genshin Impact is not part of this collaboration, Sony has reached an exclusive agreement with this Chinese project that has become, since its debut in 2020, one of the most profitable games today.

Sony wants to sell twice as many PlayStation 5 then PS4 in China
Sony sells its PlayStations in China, a market in which, due to vetoes in recent decades, the public has leaned more towards mobile and PC games. Sony has sold more than 3.5 million PS4s, but the goal is to double this figure with PlayStation 5. “We want gamers around the world to better understand the creativity that comes from China. I have always dreamed of making console games a regular part of Chinese people’s daily entertainment,” said Tatsuo Eguchi, President of SIE Shanghai.
