Microsoft offered Sony the possibility to add Call of Duty on PS Plus
After announcing a commitment to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch for 10 years, Microsoft is counter-concessing to remove criticism.
Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard has entered a new phase following the FTC’s lawsuit over the deal. According to the latest news, Microsoft would be offering new concessions to Sony, which is the main opponent of the purchase, and after announcing a commitment to bring Call of Duty to other consoles -including Nintendo Switch- for a decade , now it would allow Sony to include the shooter within your PS Plus subscription.
Bloomberg assures that this offer is added to the previous ones, and with it they want to scare away criticism about the competition problems that bringing a success like Call of Duty to Xbox Game Pass would entail , even if it remains for sale on other systems. Bloomberg understands that Sony has not yet agreed to the latest deal and remains opposed to Microsoft controlling the industry’s largest publisher for $68.7 billion.
Following the announcement of the purchase earlier this year, Microsoft has expressed its desire to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation for at least one season, as it “wouldn’t make sense” to pull the series from such a large market. “Microsoft has entered into a ten-year commitment to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo following the merger of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard King. Microsoft is committed to helping bring more games to more people , however they choose to play,” he said. Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming.
The FTC opposes the control of “a leading independent study”
Microsoft’s statements have not convinced the competition agency in the United States, and Holly Vedova, director of the FTC’s competition office, said these days that “Microsoft has already shown that it can and will block content from its rivals. Today we seek to prevent Microsoft from gaining control over a leading independent studio and using it to harm competition in the video game markets. ”
Analysts believe that the purchase will be finalized after the dispute in the courts, but this process will delay the agreement more than expected; Microsoft hoped to shut it down by June 30, 2023.
